College Park Aviation Museum Hosts Aerial Art Contest

Students K-12 can submit entries until May 2.

When I was in elementary school, I knew a kid who would sit at his desk and draw planes on every surface he could get his felt-tip marker on: Homework. Tests. His own limbs. 

I'm not sure what became of him, but if I could go back in time, I would urge him to enter the College Park Aviation Museum's art contest, sponsored in conjunction with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. The contest is open to students K-12, and the first place winner from each category will be awarded a $25 gift card.

Entries can come in any size, and all media is accepted. The themes for the contest are:

  • Aviation in Your Life
  • Your Fantasy Airshow
  • Aviation Rescues

The top entries from each age group be put on display in the College Park Aviation Museum, and an opening reception will be held on May 14. 

Entries must be delivered or postmarked by May 2. The museum will also be hosting an Art Day on April 30 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., so participants have the option of creating and submitting their entries then.
