Red Line trains will operate as follows:

  • Between Shady Grove & NoMa-Gallaudet - Every 10 minutes 9AM-9PM and at regular weekend intervals (15-20 minutes) at other times.

  • Between Glenmont & Silver Spring - Every 10 minutes 9AM-9PM and at regular weekend intervals (15-20 minutes) at other times.

  • Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between Silver Spring and NoMa-Gallaudet. Shuttle buses will operate continuously on two routes:

    • Express buses will operate non-stop between Silver Spring & NoMa-Gallaudet stations. Add up to 30 minutes of travel time.

    • Local buses will operate between Silver Spring & NoMa-Gallaudet, with intermediate stops at Takoma, Fort Totten, Brookland and Rhode Island Ave stations. Add 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop. For example, if traveling from Brookland to Rhode Island Avenue, add 10 minutes for one stop. If traveling from Fort Totten to NoMa, add 30 minutes because the bus makes three stops.

Stations closed: Takoma, Brookland, Rhode Island Ave.  (Fort Totten open for Green/Yellow service only.)

Work performed: Crews will replace wooden rail ties, renew third-rail insulators, advance platform reconstruction projects, improve track substructure conditions and install new communication equipment.  In addition, DDOT will continue construction on the New York Avenue bridge.

Travel tip: If you normally drive and park at stations on the eastern leg of the Red Line (e.g. Glenmont, Silver Spring, Takoma), consider parking at stations on the western side of the line instead.  Good options include Grosvenor, Rockville and Shady Grove.  Green and Yellow line service provides a good alternate route between Fort Totten and downtown stations, including Gallery Place.

Change to last train time (Glenmont to Silver Spring): On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the last train from Glenmont to Silver Spring will depart 47 minutes earlier than normal to allow for shuttle bus connections.  The last train will depart Glenmont at 1:50 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and at 10:50 p.m. on Sunday.

    ORANGE/BLUE LINES

    Trains every 16 minutes

Orange and Blue Line trains will operate every 16 minutes throughout the weekend.

Work performed: Track maintenance, fastener renewal and ceiling tile replacement between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations.

Travel tip:  Before traveling, consult the trip planner at wmata.com to check the special schedule and reduce your wait time. (Note: Updated schedules are available via Trip Planner starting at noon on Fridays; please check schedules after this time.)  You will experience the additional wait time on the platform.  Once your train departs the station, it is not expected to encounter additional delays en route.
