Week in Review: Stephan Weaver, Citi Open, a Gas Line Break, and More

Monday, Patch pulled together some links about a new partnership with the initiative to build a hospital in Prince George's County

Tuesday, Patch reported on the first day of main draw play at the Citi Open tennis tournament, held at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Women's Tennis Association competition brought together some of the best players from around the world. Championships for singles competition takes place Sunday.

Later in the day Tuesday, Patch kept a live blog about the gas line break that caused a temporary evacuation of a College Park high rise.

Patch also reported on an idea from the Committee for a Better Environment to increase the frequency of recycling in the city. Wednesday, Patch followed up with the city's intention to update the outdated code to reflect current recycling guidelines in College Park.

Patch also reported on Washington, D.C.'s parking ticket amnesty program, starting Monday, that forgives ticket holders of overdue fees. Marylanders account for 37.6 percent of the $245.7 million in overdue parking fees owed to the District.

The motions hearing for Stephan Weaver, a suspect who admitted to involvement in the January murder of University of Maryland student Justin DeSha-Overcash, was canceled due to motions withdrawn. He will appear in trial on Aug. 24.

Friday, Patch featured a local pianist and music director who took part in the teen production of Hairspray in Beltsville.
