1. Tickets go on sale this morning for the Friday at the University of Maryland. A limited number of tickets will be available starting at 9 a.m. at the ticket office outside the Hoff Theater in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union.

2. In case you missed it, Patch reported yesterday that hoping to construct a Whole Foods Market, fitness center and 900 housing units in Riverdale Park, potentially affecting U.S. Route 1 traffic in College Park. Officials expect the Cafritz Property group to make a presentation in August.

3. On this day in 1861, the first major land battle of the Civil War took place in the first battle of Bull Run, when hundreds of civilians - men, women and children - came out to watch the bloody encounter. The Confederates forced the Union forces into a hasty retreat.
