Voting Hungry? Head to Proteus

And you thought the "I Voted" sticker was the only Election Day freebie

There are many reasons to vote, ranging from lofty ideals about the spirit of democracy to the privilege of flaunting an "I Voted!" sticker. Now, Proteus Bicycles is adding another to the list: free food.

Proteus staff will be serving up three square meals on Tuesday to anyone who wants one: Breakfast will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., lunch from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., and a dinner from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Proteus owner Jill DiMauro said her intention isn't to use food to bribe people to vote, but simply to celebrate Election Day.

"Life is full of so many things we have to do," she said."Voting doesn't have to be a drag. We need to find things to celebrate and make celebrations out of as much as possible. So I thought, why not make voting a fun day?"

DiMauro and her staff won't require any proof that one has voted before they're allowed to dig in. In fact, it's perfectly fine to grab a meal to go -- the point is to ease the burden of voting as much as possible.

"I was trying to think of the hardest part about voting, and sometimes you have to miss a meal because you have to go before work or during your lunch hour," DiMauro said. "I thought maybe this would make it a little less painful."

Still hungry? California Tortilla will also be serving up a free taco to anyone sporting an "I Voted" sticker.
