UPDATE: Man Arrested in Connection to Shanghai Tokyo Robbery
Man arrested near the restaurant Tuesday night.
The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a Washington, D.C. man Tuesday in connection to last week’s Shanghai Tokyo strong-armed robbery, according to a PGPD press release.
Police arrested James Lakeen Turner, 18, of the 400 block of Lebaum Street, around 7:20 p.m. after a brief chase on foot. He later confessed his involvement in the crime, according to police.
The arrest comes five days after the theft, in which a purse and iPhone were snatched from a diner at the restaurant around 4 p.m. According to restaurant spokesman Dave Baker, the woman was sitting quietly in the restaurant wearing headphones.
Security cameras caught the suspect’s image as he entered the restaurant. According to police, these images helped find the man they believe is responsible for the robbery.
Earlier this week, restaurant owner Joe Chen replaced the woman’s iPhone in an attempt to make amends with the diner.
