UMd. Sorority Sisters Charged with Assault, Hazing

The Washington Post reports that seven current and former members of the sorority Zeta Phi Beta are scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

County police have charged seven University of Maryland sorority sisters with assault and hazing a pledge during initiation in October, the Washington Post reports.

Those charged are Bridget Blount, 24; Monika Young, 23; Zakiya Shivers, 26; Tymesha Pendleton, 26; Kandyce Jackson, 20; Amber Bijou, 22; and Montressa Hammond, 24, and most of the women are scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning. 

The sorority, Zeta Phi Beta, was suspended indefinitely in November.

According to TBD, university officials also halted pledge activities of three fraternities -- Delta Chi, Tau Kappa Epsilon and Pi Kappa Alpha for possible violations.
