Twitter World Weighs in on UMd. Sports Team Cuts
University of Maryland could cut at least eight teams to help balance Athletic Department budget.
With at least eight teams potentially on the chopping block at the University of Maryland because of budget problems, the Twitter-verse is a buzz.
From Ravens' rookie star and Terp alum Torrey Smith, to Emmy winning sports anchor Brett Haber, everyone has something to say.
Of course, athletes are also making the case for their teams. At least two of the eight teams have started online petitions to argue for their team to remain intact at the university:
- Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving, which has already garnered more than 4,000 signatures. (It was at 1,500 four days ago.) The team also started its own website, and they're selling Save Maryland Swimming & Diving T-shirts.
- Acrobatics and Tumbling has 296 signatures so far.
- There's also a petition to save all the water sports.
