UPDATE: Student Found Dead on UMD Campus

Police found a Bel Air woman dead in her dorm room Monday afternoon.

Update, 2:10 p.m.: The woman found dead in her Kent Hall dorm room was Sarah Hancock, 20, of Bel Air, according to police.

Cause of death is unknown at this time and will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, police said.

No further information was released.

Original story: A college student was found dead in a UMD dorm room shortly after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Police say they were "made aware" of an unresponsive student in a Kent Hall dorm room at 1:15 p.m. on Monday. Once on the scene, they found the student, a woman, was dead.

The incident is under investigation by University of Maryland Police detectives, who believe the death was accidental. Foul play and suicide are not suspected.

The parents of the student have been notified, but her name has not yet been released to the public. More information on the incident will be available on Tuesday after police have had a more in-depth conversation with the student's parents.
