MEETING PREVIEW: M Square DSP, University District Plan, and Liquor License Approval

Patch has a round up of agenda items on tap for tonight's Mayor and Council meeting.

There's a packed agenda for tonight's mayor and council meeting, which begins at 8:00 p.m.  in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 4500 Knox Road. Those attending the meeting can pick up a parking pass from the windows just inside the building.

Below is a summary of several of the agenda items. The complete agenda is attached to this post.

  • What's On the Consent Agenda?

The council will vote on the approval of two non-competitive and four competitive public school grants that amount to a total of $18,500. Mayor Andrew Fellows will also propose a resolution to join with Prince George's County and other municipalities to join in joint negotiations for the renewal of the Comcast franchise.

  • University District Vision 2020

Council member Stephanie Stullich will bring forward a motion to express support for the principals of the "University District Vision 2020." The city of College Park, Prince George's County, and the state of Maryland together with UMd. will work to "create and implement jointly an integrated community development strategy for the University District around College Park, Maryland," according to the vision.

  • College Park Charter School

Council member Denise Mitchell will bring forward a motion to support the city's application to the Prince George's County Board of Education for the College Park Academy Charter School. The school would enroll 150 students upon it's completion in 2013, and eventually serve up to 600 students from the county, who would apply for admission via a lottery system.

  • Liquor License Approval

The council will vote on a liquor license application for the property formerly knows as Santa Fe Cafe on Knox Rd. in downtown College Park. The proprietors have aspirations of turning the now vacant location into restaurant by day and jazz and R&B bar by night. They have plans for a new name - Terrapin Turf - and extensive renovation on the property, including an updated sprinkler system.

  • M-Square DSP Approval

At the City Planning Office's recommendation, the council will vote on approval, with conditions of the Detailed Site Plan (DSP) of the M-Square development. The 13.43-acre property located on the College Park and Riverdale Park border, is slated to become a pedestrian-friendly, transit-oriented district that will reduce vehicular traffic and help revitalize the local economy.

  • College Park Day Poster Contest Winners

The council will present certificates to the winners of the College Park Day Poster Contest. Ten children from grades 1-6 and representing four different elementary schools will be acknowledged

You really support a R&B bar by night? No memory of the other r&b clubs in the past and the troubles they caused. Oh well, any bets on how long they will be open before the first shooting or stabbing?

What did they do at cornerstone to keep that element out - they charged like a $50 cover charge for non-university students? Thats not racist or anything...
