Leslie Johnson May Plead Guilty Thursday
Prince George's County Councilwoman Leslie E. Johnson is expected to enter a guilty plea in federal court this week, local media reports.
Prince George's County Councilwoman Leslie E. Johnson (Dist. 6) is expected to plead guilty Thursday in federal court in connection with a federal corruption case involving her husband, former County Executive Jack Johnson, according to WTOP.
The county councilwoman was charged with conspiracy to commit witness and evidence tampering.
Thursday’s scheduled hearing marks the second time a plea hearing has been set in Leslie Johnson’s case. A May court hearing was canceled two days before it was to occur, according to the Washington Post.
If Johnson is convicted of a felony, Maryland law requires she step down from her council seat.
She was also caught trying to stuff more than $79,000 in her bra and underwear as federal agents arrived at their home.
The councilwoman was charged with conspiracy to commit witness and evidence tampering, according to published reports. Jack Johnson has been indicted on extortion and bribery charges.

as a retired officer of the court they should throw the book at her and her husband. Unfortunately, this is the culture in PG and it was this way with the white folks also.

It is too bad that we often lose sight of the bigger picture. Race is not the issue here. Greed and the criminal acts of two self serving people is the issue. We must pay more attention to the people we elect to serve us. These criminal acts were committed over a period of time, and the Johnson's would still be stuffing their pockets today if it wasn't for the federal agents who arrested them. We should be looking at how we can fix this corruption problem not using it as an opportunity to poke at each other.

Well said M.McMillian and it is this same type of thinking why the US as a whole is so "third world" compared to Europe.

One's race has nothing to do with the fact that they stole and as a resident of this county I am outraged because our public school system is subpar, our roads are pitful and our taxes are sky high.

Alicia, Patch is actually talking with Mr. William Hite, superintendent of Prince George's County Public Schools, this week, and we are inviting questions from Patch readers about their concerns regarding the education system. If you - or anyone else - have some last minute questions you'd like to get in, there's still time - but hurry! E-mail me at Shannon.Hoffman@patch.com, or comment below with questions you'd like Mr. Hite to answer.

Thank you, Shannon. I would especially like to know what strategies PGPS will adopt to overcome the challenges of reduced funds. Superintendent Hite came to PGPS as a reformer and academics head Arbogast came from Anne Arundel PS, so I expect (and hope!) that they have some things in mind. Thank you.

Hi Sonia, Could you ask Dr. Hite if he and the school board would consider cost cutting measures such as elementary and middle school consolidation by creating K through 8th grade at selected schools like University Park Elementary.

Would you be upset if after paying 6 months rent you were told to move? No refund. Would you still be upset if you had been told beforehand that you would be evicted in 6 months? Would you have taken that opportunity to not lose your money?
Answer 'yes' to the first question?
If so, you should be equally pissed that we (county residents):
A) let Lady Bra Johnson into office to begin with and B) paid her salary the whole time.
She'll plead guilty today and be forced to resign a position she shouldn't have had in the first place - at our expense. Is she going to return her salary to the county? I don't think so.
If that <put your own derogatory word here> had any genuine concerns for this county she would have stepped down once elected, being so self-serving that couldn't happen.
This county is a laughing stock and I can't wait to get the heck out of it. One more FOR SALE sign going up within 45 days.
Thanks a hell of a lot!
