The College Park Community Library, fueled by donations and volunteers and housed in the basement of a local church, opened its doors to the public on Wednesday.

Patch sat down with founder Joe Smith, who said he was pleased with the number of people who showed up on that first day, and he talked about why he decided to open the library.

Smith is still looking for volunteers to work at the library, so contact him at cpcomlibrary@gmail.com or 301-910-2433. And although the basement-level room at the College Park Church of the Nazarene is full of teeming shelves, he's still accepting book donations.

Find the library hours and days for children's story time here, on library website.

I am so impressed by this effort by Joe, Jackie Kelley, and other volunteers. I so agree with Joe's comment that books are important, especially now. I love books too! Thanks Joe and all for working so hard to make this happen.
