The City of College Park hopes to name the baseball field in College Park Woods after former Mayor Anna Owens, the only woman to have ever held the seat. (Fun fact: The photo in the background is of Owens.) She was mayor from 1987 to 1993, and councilwoman from 1981 to 1987. Because the field is owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the city must request the name change. Mayor Andrew Fellows read a proclamation at Tuesday's Mayor and Council meeting, and also presented Owens with a key to the city. (Nov. 22, 2011)
