Charging Documents Reveal Details of DeSha-Overcash Murder
A longtime friend of Stephan Weaver led police to both suspects.
On Thursday, police announced the arrest of Stephan Weaver and Deandre Ricardo Williams, both of whom are charged with murdering 22-year-old University of Maryland student Justin DeSha-Overcash in his College Park home in January.
More details about the murder have emerged since the arrest was made public, and most of those details came via charging documents, posted as a PDF at right.
Police were led to the suspects through a tip from Weaver's longtime friend, who he called to confide in after the murder took place.
Patch has redacted information like specific addresses, phone numbers and signatures; otherwise, the documents posted at right appear in their entirety.

Dear Karen Desha: You might wanna face the fact your son, JUSTIN was smoking and selling reefer and the criminals charged with murder at least got cuaght. Caucasions , like your boy,sell drugs too, and more often than not Blacks kill them and have White accomplices just like in your son's case. No disrespect , when my sister was ("murdered") died from COCAINE overdose (about 8 years ago ) I too wanted the suppliers brought to court and the PG POLICE laughed and frankly they were probably right and I do not hold it against the cops.
Thereby, do not be mad at PG cops cause WE blacks know all races of folk sell drugs and you at least can have a day in court in hopes of seeing the 2 killers go to jail for life or get the death penalty...something I could not get after my sister's "murder". So face teh truth and you will sleep beter I do now knowing my sister choose the drugs to use and so you must too and apoligize to the public for being naive.

I admire the confidential informant coming forward to bring closure to this case, though I now worry about his safety. I wish the wording that the police released had been changed or also blackened out.
Actions bring reactions. Parents should not be naive.

Jane ;
I appreciate your concern for the informant's safety; you do realize he will receive $25,000.00 for his heroic deed. I will reiterate I am far from naive. As I am a child of the '70's there is nothing and I mean nothing my son, Justin and I did not discuss. Including drugs...allow me to share with you "the big picture"...when did marjauna become more important than a LIFE? As my son was a physics major I am more than capable of diserning actions bring reactions....my son DIED because HE chose to DEFEND himself. I have grown weary of folks putting in their 'two cents' when they have no knowledge of the entire story. Why not join us when we have our monthly rallies to generate community awareness of the violent crimes occuring every 38 hours in PG County? Why not be a part of the solution? Why shouldn't your admiration be for the PG County Police Department and the souls who lost their lives in January and February? Priorties darlin'...priorities. In true southern style, ya'll have a nice day now! Justin's momma

I am very proud of the confidential informant for coming forward in this case. Justice needed to be served. I do believe that Justin smoked weed but by no means do I think he was a high time drug dealer. Justin was a wonderful person and my condolences go out to you Karen and your family

Dear Jacques;
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your sister it must have been a horrible time for you and your family and friends. You have a right to free speech under the fifth amendment of our Nation's Constitution. I will keep you and your sister in my prayers.
I appreciate you sharing your opinion in my son's murder; although, you have yet to be privy to all the evidence we have previewed ergo you may want to hold judgment. The press tends to 'skew' all news never believe everything you read or hear these folks are out to sell papers, truth is not in their dictionary. I am not naive; therefore, owe no apology and even if I were naive I would still not owe any one an apology. There has never been any issues between myself and the police/detectives of the PG County Police Department they have been GREAT and have kept us in the loop. They have been willing to share and have been very sensitive to our tragic loss since the beginning of this horrific reality endured by our son. Quote 'un' quote: "Through investigation we have found him to be a good kid with a heart of gold."
Number one: Justin DeSha-Overcash is a man not a boy. Number two: Justin cared for all ethnicity especially African Americans; he chose to do his High School graduation project on Malcolm X; no disrespect but he probably knew more about African American history than you. Do your homework, gather the facts, then make an educated comment. God Bless you, Justin's momma

Bonjour Madame Karen: First, I to am sorry for your lost of your man,ie. son Justin. I believe your family is suffering and will have a tough road ahead without him. Having 2 BLACK sons 13 and 19 yrs (a sophmore in college) makes me smile and keep me nervous at times ; I understand having boys-to-men and I know in my heart you do too.
But Karen, the same way you espouse the media, let me epouse/educate you about the term African-American...it is FALSE it ain't real and BLACK folk has lost their identity more than slavery robbed them of the same. Africa is named after a colonist 'HENRY AFRICA' AND America is named after 'AMERICUS VESPUGI', a documented crook like Christopher Columbus, so I know more about Amercian History than you do. Sellout BLACKS use the term African American from that Oprah (she never hired a black writer, never had a baby by a BLACK man and uses her money and power to fool) gal to that baby-maker-out-of -wedlock Jesse Jackson and like Glen Beck and Laura Ingraham they trick the masses.
Thank you and you welcome and remember African-American is used to appease Caucasions and the confused coloreds,uh Negro.

Thank you Madame Chevalier;
For the update and education; however, I am aware of these facts on American history you shared. I use the 'politically correct' title due to not wishing to offend....and, look, I end up unintentionally offending you. I must share that Justin was raised in Salisbury, NC 35 % Caucasian....My son's pallbearers were elementary/middle school friends from Salisbury. As no one is perfect I do not wish to appear ignorant; however, I am a full-time momma not a pert-time one. My son and I discussed many topics including drugs, alcohol abuse, the virtues of honesty and the consequences of choices. I have never said Justin had not smoked....I have never said he was as pure as the driven snow. continued...

Contined for Ms Chevalier;
My son a double major physics and astronomy w/ two minors geophysics and math. He tutored the athletes @ UMD, worked at the observatory, was a TA in the physics department, and was doing research to pursue his masters. He laughed loudly, loved everyone, was brilliant (I have no idea where he came by this), enjoyed a challenge, wanted people to get along, dropped everything to help others (even if he did not know them), produced beautiful music, loved one woman, respected others, treated people the way he wished to be treated and I have no idea why GOD chose to bless me with such joy and happiness. I have forgiven men who harmed him for he would have forgiven them...you see Madame Chevalier in reality it no longer matters what was found in the home my son shared w/ five other students three young men lost their lives on January 11th. If I could turn back the hands of time for all of them and my son had met these two in EXTREMELY different circumstances they would be friends. Justin knew no other path he possessed undying compassion for his fellow man regardless of ethnicity he was different. I wish you could have known him as we all did not perfect attempted to be fair and unbiased toward others yes Justin did. It is my opinion we complicate issues which need not be so complicated maybe therein lies my naivety treating folks the way I wish to be treated. Life is far too short to be ugly to others. I envy you, you have your son's.

Karen, I really don't think the person who called the police really cared if they received $25,000 or not. Based on the high school he attended he was doing the right thing. What I was concerned about was how the police phrased his connection to the case. I hope they did not put another person in danger. One lost life is one too many. It wasn't that is was marijuana, it was perceived that someone in the house had something that someone else wanted. Violent crime can be, unfortunately, for anything. Trust me, I have my priorities. I am very involved in my community. I sincerely am sorry for your loss, I too have children one who had to have emergency surgery in March and may not be out of the woods yet. You need to involve everyone in the community, not just college students. Good Luck.
