Car Fire Temporarily Closes Regents Drive Garage

The fire appears to be accidental in nature, according to officials.

A car fire in the Regents Drive garage on campus temporarily closed the facility Monday morning, according to UMD officials.

The fire, which was on the second level of the garage, was reported at around 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. Prince George's County fire fighters responded and found the car fairly isolated and locked, according to Prince George's County Fire Department spokesperson Mark Brady.

Fire fighters were able to extinguish the blaze in 15 to 20 minutes, said Brady.

No injuries were reported, and Brady said the fire appears to have been accidental in nature, caused by some type of electrical or mechanical malfunction.

Portions of the garage have been reopened, but part of the facility will remain closed while fire fighters finish clean up, Brady said.
