Branchville Fire Company Elects Leizear to Return as Chief
Richard “Ricky” Leizear continues to follow in his father's footsteps as company chief.
Richard “Ricky” Leizear will return to the position of chief of the Branchville Volunteer Fire Company.
Leizear has ascended the company ranks from lieutenant to deputy chief over the past 20 years, also serving as chief in 2009. It was decided by a vote at the June company meeting that Leizear would resume the post.
"[As chief] I will be working to increase the membership of the department and also working on establishing a good relationship with the members of College Park City Council as well of the county,” Leizear said.
He is a career firefighter with the District of Columbia Fire Department, where he is assigned to Ladder Company 14 in upper northwest D.C.
Serving the Branchville Volunteer Fire Company is a family affair. Leizear’s father, Ronald Leizear Sr. was a chief of the company in the early 1980s and a president from 2001 to 2003. Leizear’s brother, Ronald Leizear Jr. has been a member for over 15 years and serves as a firefighter.
Leizear will take over from Michael Burrier, who retired after 18 years of service with the department.
The Branchville Volunteer Fire Company provides fire and emergency service to north College Park and surrounding areas.
Jim Davis is a life member of the Branchville Volunteer Fire Company.
