Bobby's Burger Palace Set to Open Thursday

Ribbon-cutting ceremony is at 10 a.m.

Bobby's Burger Palace will open its doors to the public at noon Thursday following a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Restaurateur and reality television personality Bobby Flay and Mayor Andrew Fellows will be at the 10 a.m. ceremony to kick off the opening of BBP. The burger joint is an 80-seat restaurant featuring burgers inspired by Flay's travels across the country.

Parking is available adjacent to BBP.

BBP is on the bottom floor of the Varsity student housing high rise, 8150 Baltimore Ave. It is the next in a wave of new restaurants to open in College Park. Looney's Pub opened for the first time on Sept. 30, Azteca Cantina and Restaurant on Sept. 16 and Barking Dog on Aug. 22.

Pizza Autentica (University View) opened on October 9th and Royal Farms (Varsity) will open on October 13th, too.

Thanks for letting me know! Wasn't aware that Pizza Autentica had opened. I'll check both out this week.

Hey Lisa - - Michele L. says there's plenty of parking right behind within the View for patrons but I haven't tried yet.

Hey Lisa,
There's a lot within the Varsity that's intended for guests and retail shoppers/restaurant go-ers. When I went a couple weeks ago, they weren't enforcing these rules yet, and students were still parking in the lot for free. I was told this would soon change. I haven't gone back to that lot since, so I can't say from personal experience if it's better yet.

I can tell you there is a lot with hundreds of spaces on UMd's campus that opens after 4 p.m. on weekdays, and it's open all weekend (unless there's a football game. If you're driving south on Route 1, turn right onto campus at Campus Drive, and make the first right, and then the first right again for that lot. It's a short walk over the bridge from there.

I'll let you know if I find out more. Thanks for reading!

Lisa,
I checked out the lot today. At approximately 3 p.m., there were a handful of spaces open and I was able to part no problem. A warning though: My freelancer parked at about the same time in the lot across the street, behind Town Hall, and he was towed.

Shannon,

Will Bobby be available to sign books after the ceremony at 10am? How long is he expected to be there after the ribbon is cut? I'm a student at UMD and I would love to get a cookbook signed by him.

Thanks,
-Monica

Hi Monica,
He will be there for at least a little while after the ribbon cutting -- there's a media event going on between the end of the ribbon ceremony and the official opening at noon. I'm not sure how long he'll be there after noon though. I'd give it a try though, if I were you!
